Problem
As a brand new platform, how can DesignLoop appeal to creatives and digital designers to join and participate? The challenge was to create an brand identity and design a landing page for this new community of designers.
To incentivize new user conversion, the branding and homepage design need to feel creative, unique, but also trustworthy since it is a platform meant to support professional growth and community.
Solution
01. Research
Market Research
I started the design process by conducting research in the form of a competitive analysis in which I studied direct and indirect competitors to learn how they have positioned themselves in the market to existing and new users. This helped me identify visual patterns, types of media used and the structuring of their landing pages. This would help me identify opportunities for Design Loop to stand out.
Direct Competitors

ADPList, Growth Mentor: These two platforms have traditional landing page structure in which they preview product interface and highlight functions. They also include testimonials and a live chat. The majority of the images used are of people portrayed as users to emphasize the community aspect.
Indirect Competitor

Reddit, Quora, Chat GPT: Reddit and Quora have their post feeds as their homepage. ChatGPT has the input to ask a question as the homepage. These platforms invite the user to participate as soon as they land on the page.
Opportunities
There is an opportunity to provide a unique landing page for DesignLoop. I decided to explore unconventional landing page structures and the use of dynamic media to explain the product as well as to attract new users.
02. Branding
Logo, Color Palette, Typeface & UI Library
The logo is playing with orthogonal and organic text to express the creative, but trustworthy nature the platform aims to provide for its users. The typeface for headers was chosen because it is clean but has subtle, unique character details that make it playful. The DesignLoop primary color is blue to communicate trust, but the secondary colors are more playful and will be used on marketing materials and UI components throughout the platform.
03. Landing Page Design
Sketching Initial Ideas
After designing the brand, I moved onto sketching ideas for the landing page structure. The idea was to have a horizontal scroll that would loop back to the hero section as a nod to the name of the platform and as a metaphor to the looping activity of asking a question and receiving feedback. The landing page content would focus on introducing and describing the new product through animations that showcase key features and flows.
Hi-Fi Wireframes
After the initial sketch, I moved onto digitizing it, applying brand colors, and working on copy for the different sections. During this process , I used FigmaMake Ai to explore how the horizontal scrolling motion would work. I also worked on responsiveness by designing the mobile screen version.

04. Motion Design
Telling Design Loop's story through animations
Once the design of the landing page was set, I moved onto working on the animations. I started by creating a story board for the hero section animation. This animation shows once of the most important flows, the process of submitting a question for feedback. I also worked on two supplemental animations, one shows a question being typed and receiving feedback. The other animation shows the community feed and user profile feature.

Points and Achievements System
As part of the effort to draw in and retain users, a point system was put in place. The user can get points by completing basic tasks within the platform, such as submitting a question or providing feedback to someone else's question.
I designed a component that would be present throughout the platform to visually communicate to users their progress and achievements. I also designed a "Points" page that the user can visit to learn more and keep more detailed track of their progress.

Learnings and Next Steps
During this design process I deepened my knowledge on research methodologies, learned more about branding, dabbled in motion design, and started to think about/design for gamification.
DesignLoop has been launched as an MVP and it is still work in progress. There are still many features that need to be refined and the effort to attract new users is ongoing. DesignLoop has a lot of space to grow and I look forward to see how the platform shapes as it gains users and builds its community.
